94 Dominus [Napa] Dark blue black. Wow. This is everything this wine is reputed to be. Fantastically powerful, elegant, and balanced with simply amazing velveteen mouthfeel. Super 60 second concentration, lots of layers of flavor and fruit rotating between spice, fruits, and candy. People always say how Dominus tastes like great Pomerol due to its ownership's influence and in this year it tastes like a stunning 82 or 90 microestate with silky touches. It's a perfect wine and knocked the socks off everyone at our table. As an amusing touch, the wine was purchased/stolen from a desperate seller trying to make the car payments on an extravagant car leased during the bull market. 100 pts.

Deep red, slightly thin rim. More of the same as above (which is a fine compliment), very Bordeauxish, long. The PL (the 95 Pinchon-Lalande we had that night) wins due to the aging curve. Slightly slightly drier, but not much. Believe people when they tell you Dominus could be a blind ringer in a Bordeaux tasting. This is all about restraint.

Brought by a friend this wine was absolutely spectacular. This was my first experience with Dominus and I was duely blown away. What surprised me most was how old world it tasted (Bages). Wonderful earthy notes and roses on the nose, copious but not overdone fruit but definitely in balance. Nice finish with very little alcohol or tannin present. The wine of the trip. Is this representative of other vintages for this wine?

If I had not known we were tasting American wine I would have guessed the next wine to be a Bordeaux. Very concentrated, yet with sweetness and enormous strength combined with pure, well-defined tannins I would have guessed at a young, closed Bordeaux like Pichon Lalande, but in fact it was Dominus 1994. Due to the closed appearance I found it difficult to evaluate, but ended up giving it 94 points as the wine was very well balanced and showed lots and lots of potential.
