98 La Chenade [Lalande de Pomerol] To my taste, this has really started declining even in my ice cold cellar. Its decent but fairly non descript merlot in my book and best consumed straightaway. I liked this a few years ago but, as noted before, this region is not known for improving with bottle age. 84 pts.

98 La Chenade [Lalande de Pomerol] Decent not great palate. Tastes like it's a few years old but still fairly young. I find the finish average; its missing the joy some of the other more favored wines show tonite. I would say this should be moved to the fast track for consumption. 84 pts.

Deep dark red/purple. Nice nose of cedar and tobacco and red fruits. Kinda raspberry. Full smooth mouthfeel. Crisp. Not tannic. Ripe red fruits in mouth with some herbal note akin to fresh mint/sage. Really decent finish. Methinks third note on this. Still Recommended. Very Good.

98 La Chenade [Lalande de Pomerol] A fine little petits chateaux that has won raves on this board from some idiosynratic tasters. I like this a lot [I bought a case] but I'm not as high on this as I was 6 months ago when I thought it was a solid 88 pts on release. It seems to be settling down a bit and the big blueberry notes it used to have seem a touch muted now. It does open well with a extra 24 hours of air but for now some of the other Lalande de Pomerols have stepped in front of it in the quality rankings. 87 pts.

(Lalande de Pomerol) I cooled it to cellar temperature which is my custom. Poured into the proper stem. Ah, the nose of '98 Merlot - really something. Then the palate. Nice fruity attack and then if fell off - like a flare heading for the earth. Midsection and finish were just not there. I waited a few hours and it did thicken up a bit but really did not come around. I also got a touch of acidity on the finish.

This is a small Lalande de Pomerol owned by Denis Durantou, the L'Eglise Clinet wundervinter. I found this very tasty and harmonious. The flavor/finish/aroma are not quite as intense nor long as the others wines consumed over the night but they are not that much less. While not complex it still has appealing black cherry oaky flavors. Also a + performance from a bottle that was not given any breathing time but rather greedily guzzled up. This was the consensus #2 wine of the weekend. everyone was amazed at its humble price - $16.50
