My first experience with a CDR from this Cornas producer. $25. Dark red-purple color. The nose was a real WOW. The nose started out with a very Bordeaux-like profile: Lead pencil, cigar box and underbrush. Blind I would have pinned this wine as an 80's right bank Bordeaux. After a half-hour the nose changed to be more Rhone-like with a touch of funkiness and wet animal fur. The palate is really well concentrated but not over-done. The finish was clipped at first but after 15 minutes is became quite long. Lots of dark fruit, chocolate and intesity here. What I really liked about this wine was how well put together it was. It had nice layers and balance. A definite beginning, middle and end. An Oakophobes dream. Perhaps a touch of baby fat but drinking really well now. I don't know how long it will last but I doubt my case will see the leaves turn next year.
