| . What a nose! I could smell this thing all night. A great old world, musty nose with hints of Grandpa's root cellar and your first Christmas tree. On the mouth somewhat of a let down relative to the nose (which is typical for me and Rioja) but still great. Mature, perfumed and somewhat masculine but balanced and not lacking in fruit. This is not a rustic, bone-dry Rioja. It is also not the new-world style. It does; however, remain true to it's pedigree in being a Rioja and really stands up nice to spice and garlic. After 2 hours on decanter it offered up a carmelized note on the nose and the acidity really asserted itself. It seemed to grow in weight with time. I do have a weak spot for this wine as my wife and I met over a Rioja. 93 points. |
