Took a while to loosen up and has faded since my last look. Still a pretty wine, maybe a hint of rose petal amidst the cherry and raspberry. I thought this had more time to go, maybe it's the bottle.

79 Palmer [Margaux] This was my favorite of the three [as would the other Palmer too]. I thought it was a very fine wine that I confused for a Pomerol. I'm surprised how delicious this turned out to be. 91 pts.

Word is that this wine was a success in a difficult vintage. I've not had any other '79's to date. The bottle had a base neck fill and looked good. The cork was saturated through. The nose was classic Palmer with a nice floral component - rose pedal perhaps - with a touch of sweet red fruit. As often happens with older Bordeaux, the wine has little fruit and lots of tannin. It tasted dry and probably would have been ok with food but did not stand well on it's own tonight.
