‘99 Autumn Wine Reserve Pinot. $36. Reticent nose of red fruit but you really have to swirl to get it. Initial tastes are like a barrel sample - thick, concentrated and OAKY. With an hour of air at least you can taste the wine. Copious red fruit - raspberries. The wine tastes relatively tannic but is really dominated by Oak. My sense is that this wine will need time to sleep. I hope the Oak will ‘integrate’ over time. My palate is really tuned to red Burgundies so perhaps I’m overly sensitive to the new-world style - more oak and less acid. I do like Oregon Pinot from time to time and ’99 is the vintage. I’ll come back to this one yearly.
