Dark red/purple colour. Sweet vanilla scents. Very, very elegant. Hasn't closed down yet. At first a slight hollowness on the mid-palate, but seemed to get "wider" and more complex over the course of the night. Quite tannic. Much better than anticipated. To me, adds fuel to the whole "Medoc 98 isn't as bad as first anticipated" discussion.

Garnet/marooon. Slightly cooked nose. Very respectable, but not as seamless, smooth or as impressive on the mid-palate as the others. Clumsy callow youth. Will grow up to be a respectable, but not great, Latour.

Enjoyable nose with cedar and anise. Atypically Latour it was medium-bodied with new-world style fruit. I had to check my records to be sure this was not a mistake. Dry on the finish. Several were scratching their heads after tasting this one. Apparently there was a problem with the winemaker in this vintage.
