Dark purple colour. Strong black-currant nose. Also hints of brown sugar, and over the course of the night developed a fierce cream-caramel scent. Very forward fruit. Densely packed and very ripe. Sweet, chewy feel, although not overshadowed by tannin. The promise is there. This wine hasn't shut down yet. An absolute pleasure to drink now. Lovely oak-integration and long smooth finish.

Knock-out nose, even more exuberant than the other Moutons (1995-1997) with excellent length and full-body. Outstanding.

A complex nose you could really linger with. Coffee beans, carmel, black fruit and a touch of mint. I'm sure there was more in there that I did not record. The wine has the feel of a monster and is somewhat tight in the middle but still drinks much better at this stage than you would expect for Mouton. Some in the group thought it was somewhat California in style. Time will tell. A shortage of tannin will not be a problem for this wine.
