My expectations were not high after reading Parker's most recent review as he described the wine as an old style Bordeaux which to me means dry finish and lacking fruit in the middle. I was quite pleasantly surprised. The fill on this bottle was very high shoulder and the cork was moist all the way through with signs of seepage below the foil. Of course this depressed me instantly. In fact, as I inserted the corkscrew the corks slipped deeper into the bottle and in my frenzy of trying to recover it it slipped into the bottle completely. Things were not going well at this point but I managed to decant around the cork. The color was surprisingly dark and young in appearance only showing the slightest red at the edge. A moderate amount of sediment was present after decanting. The nose was very expressive with cedar notes. In the mouth this wine reminded me of the '82 Lynch Bages just a bit leaner. The midsection was relatively full and I was impressed by the amount of cassis fruit still remaining. The finish was just a touch dry but not at all off-putting with a nice spiciness. A bit monolithic but I would buy more of this wine. |

| The last wine was fully mature, but it still had brillant fruit and a bouquet that made me think of raisins. The combination of this extravagant fruit, well-integrated acidity and alcohol surely convinced me, and I gave it 94 points without hesitation. |
