#1. This is a monster. A classic Parkerized blockbuster Shiraz. #2. If you're in the mood for this style this wine delivers in force.
I like to jump around different wine regions (styles). I like change. The contrast in style between last night's hard-as-nails Vieux Telegraphe and tonight's Leng & Cooter could not be more dramatic.
The nose on this wine had so much going on that I had to get a pad and paper: Bacon fat, lava, smoke, butterscotch, new oak and pepper. On the palate you get slammed with classic pepper-tinged Shiraz fruit. The finish goes for 45 seconds. The mouthfeel is viscous but the wine is more fresh than the other '98 blockbusters I've had. I don't get much tannin in the finish but it is crisp so I think some is present. No alchohol in the finish at all. It coats your mouth like port. It reminds me of the '97 Astralis.
I know that this style of wine is controversial. I can't drink this every day but it does have a place in my cellar. I hope it holds up over time. Roberto
