This has a typical Cordier funky opening. There are aromas of cassis and boysenberries. There are flavors of boysenberries, black cherries, and leather. The sensation at the top of the mouth is quite pleasant. stefan 90. Lucie 91-92.

This excellent wine is mouth puckering even after the '94 Leoville-Barton, but the red fruit is ripe and sweet. You can smell Mary Jane that has been torched by the Feds. On the tongue there is anise and hay. Lucie remarked on the distinctive St Julien nose that is so easy to identify and so hard to describe. Excellent now, this wine should improve for a number of years.

89 Talbot [St. Julien] This reliable standby was called upon for 3 bottles of duty at a local Japanese restaurant bemused to be serving more than Kirin Ichiban and middling hot sake. Two were fine but one was returned, corked. It's a light medium red that seems too transulcent to be really impressive. It is lean compared to the good leathery Talbots of the 70's and early 80's -- or the more recent efforts which are no longer Cordier vinified. A couple oenophiles on the table said "What's wrong with Talbot?!" and no one had a ready response. For a 4th growth with some aging, this is a disappointment. 85 pts.
