Settling DownMar 7, 2006 - Well, it's been almost two month's since Samantha was born and it's time for a progress report... So far things are going reasonably well. Samantha seems to be developing just fine so far. She's slowly gaining control of her body, most recently she's figured out how to stuff a hand in her mouth, which cracks Erika and I up. She's holding her neck and back up much better now, and she's even managed to roll herself over a few times. Verbally she's starting to add some new sounds to her repertoire, including some Ooohs and Aaahs. The increased sonic vocabulary is nice because it makes it easier to tell what's going on with her now that she can do more than cry. Her vision seems to be getting stronger too, as she'll focus on toys and objects a lot more. It hasn't all gone quite so well though. There were issues through the first six weeks with feeding that, while having little impact beyond discomfort for Samantha, made Erika and myself's job a lot tougher. Erika has been a real trooper about it all though and, as I would have guessed, is great with Samantha. Sleep was hard to come by the first several weeks, but it seems like about two weeks ago things started to improve slowly. Samantha is sleeping for atleast 5 hours most nights, and sometimes takes a couple good naps during the day which has allowed us to catch up on sleep and slowly work back into some kind of rythym. Even with these little hiccups, I think we're both really enjoying watching the early development of our little girl. In other news, I'm slowly making progress on the home improvement projects. Last weekend I finished re-assembling the flourescent light fixture in the kitchen, having re-painted it white a few weeks ago. It looks great and feels good to be getting stuff done again. I'm also making progress on my photo album generator software (I use it to make the photo albums on this site). Hopefully in a few weeks I'll have the first beta ready to download and test for those of you who are interested. Here's some pics from the second month: Mike Case |
